A nine-year-old boy was allegedly shot dead after he refused to bring water for a man who was consuming alcohol, police said on Saturday.
The incident occurred during a naming ceremony in the Yakutganj village of Kasganj. Relatives and villagers had gathered to attend the ceremony. The victim's uncle, Anuj, told local news that the incident unfolded suddenly, leaving the attendees in shock.
The accused Dhanesh Yadav is a relative of the victim’s father, Jasveer Gola.
He allegedly asked the child to bring water when he was consuming alcohol.
When the buyer refused, the accused, who was allegedly under the influence of the alcohol, lost his temper and shot him in the stomach.
The firing triggered chaos at the venue, and guests scrambled to get to safety.
The injured child was rushed to the district hospital in Kasganj. Due to the severity of the injuries doctors referred him to Aligarh for advanced treatment.
On Saturday, the boy succumbed to his injuries.
A case was registered based on a complaint filed by the victim's family station house officer Govind Ballabh, Sharma said.
The firearm used by the accused has been recovered, and legal formalities to send the accused to jail are underway.
Officials said that they are examining all aspects of the case ti determine the sequence of events.
