After a statement performance in Bihar, Asaduddin Owaisi is fighting the West Bengal Assembly polls looking for another breakthrough. Going solo after walking out of the alliance with Humayun Kabir, the AIMIM has fielded candidates in 12 constituencies: Mothabari and Sujapur in Malda; Suti, Raghunathganj, and Kandi in Murshidabad; Nalhati and Murarai in Birbhum; Asansol Uttar in Paschim Bardhaman; Habra, Barasat, and Basirhat South in North 24 Parganas; and Karandighi in Uttar Dinajpur.

According to reports, Murshidabad, Malda, and Uttar Dinajpur are districts that recorded high levels of deletions during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Once again accused of splitting anti-BJP votes in a state where the Opposition parties stand a realistic chance of victory, the AIMIM has declared that it intends to represent minorities and marginalised communities. The proximity of these seats to the Seemanchal region of Bihar gives them an edge, the local leadership has said.
"The people of West Bengal have given power to the BJP. We have to respect that decision. It is the people's decision. Thirdly, I am of the opinion that I have been consistently saying that these so-called secular parties will not be able to stop BJP," he told reporters here.
He claimed that the Aam Admi Party (AAP) in Delhi, Shiv Sena (UBT) and the erstwhile NCP in Maharashtra and TMC in West Bengal tried to "play soft Hindutva" in the past and that Muslims should try to create independent political leadership.
