APSDMA warns of a severe heatwave across 14 mandals in Andhra Pradesh on Saturday

The Andhra Pradesh Disaster Management Authority has warned that there will be a severe heatwave across the state on Saturday.

Severe heatwave conditions will impact 14 mandals, including those in Srikakulam and Parvathipuram Manyam districts. Meanwhile, the 28 Mandal across Vizianagaram, Manyam, Alluri, Polavaram, Kakinada, East Godavari and Eluru districts will face heatwave conditions.

Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) Managing Director Prakhar Jain said in a press release, “Severe heatwave and heatwave conditions are likely to prevail in several mandals across the state today.” He also said that the people in North Andhra and Rayalaseema districts are to take precautions against the extreme heat and humidity.

On Friday, temperatures went up to about 41 degree Celcius across 207 mandals in the 22 districts.

The highest temperature was recorded in Salur in Mayanam where mercury levels reached 45.2 degree Celsius.

Meanwhile Nandikonda in Kurnool district saw temperatures of 43.7 degrees; Gospadu in Nandyal district, 43.6 degrees; and Terannapalli in Anantapur district, 43.5 degrees.

In Bobbili in Vizianagaram district, temperatures touched 43.4 degrees.

The APSDMA also advised people to take precautions, wear protective gear and avoid exposure to heat. They also advised people to consume sufficient lemon water, buttermilk, coconut water and drinking water, while farmers were cautioned against taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms.

The coastal side of Andhra Pradesh meanwhile is likely to witness lightning activity throughout the week.
