A female officer was arrested in Maharashtra after it came to light that she plotted and killed her father to gain a compassionate appointment. The shocking incident was revealed after her ex-lover, who was previously a police officer, reached Chandrapur Superintendent of Police (SP) Mummaka Sudarshan with evidence of the woman's brutal acts.

Policeman Jayant Ballavar's passing in March 2023 was believed to be a case of food poisoning, and his daughter, Arya Ballavar, was recruited to the police force on a compassionate appointment (dying in harness). However, the department has reportedly launched a probe after Arya's ex-boyfriend, Ashish Shedmake, was able to produce phone conversation recordings and videos showing that Arya, 22, poisoned her father on purpose, a new report said.

Arya and Ashish had known each other since childhood and later became romantically involved. The couple wanted a life together, but their families were not convinced. The duo believed they could live a life of their choosing once they were both earning and started working towards it.

Meanwhile, Ashish's father, who was a policeman, passed away. Soon, he was asked to join the force via a compassionate appointment. Arya was convinced that her father's passing could help her land a job in the department as well and plotted to kill her father with the help of Ashish and two other friends.

One of their common friends helped Ashish obtain poison worth around ₹5,000, which he handed over to the woman. She mixed it into a milkshake and gave it to Jayant, who later succumbed, Loksatta said in a report. Nobody suspected any foul play and concluded the man died due to food poisoning; as expected, Arya received a joining call.

Ashish and Arya finished their training together and started serving in the force, Loksatta said. However, Ashish soon became involved in a serious offence and was terminated from service. This created cracks in their relationship that led to an ugly breakup.

Ashish was unable to get over the way Arya ended their years-long relationship and reportedly reached the SP with evidence of Jayant's murder and confessed to his role in the killing. After reviewing the evidence, Superintendent Mummaka Sudarshan ordered the immediate registration of a case and arrests. A detailed police investigation is now being carried out at the Ram Nagar police station to confirm the ex-officer's claims.

A case has been registered under Sections 120(B), 302, 201, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code against Bhadravati natives Ashish Mahesh Shedmake (30), Chaitanya (alias Monty) Sachin Gedam (22), and a minor.
