Stranded in Middle East? Indian embassies in UAE, Qatar issue emergency helplines as Iran war rages

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said that the Indian embassies across the world are in touch with nationals stranded in the Gulf and the Middle East region

In the wake of the intensifying Iran-US war, Indian embassies in the Middle East have issued emergency numbers. The US-Israeli strikes against Iran have so far killed its Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps commander, General Mohammad Pakpour, and Ali Shamkhani, a senior adviser to the Supreme Leader. 

MEA said that the Indian embassies across the world are in touch with nationals stranded in the Gulf and the Middle East region. 

Nearly 90 MBA students from Pune were stuck in Dubai due to the airspace restrictions. 

The Indian embassy in Abu Dhabi, UAE, and Qatar issued an emergency contact number for assistance. If you are an Indian national stranded in Abu Dhabi, UAE, you can reach out for assistance at the toll-free number -- 800-46342 -- or WhatsApp number -- +971543090571.

Amid rising tensions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security at his official residence. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, EAM S. Jaishankar, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval attended the meeting. 

The mission in Kuwait is also in touch with the nationals stranded in the Gulf and the Middle East. 

As many as 23 persons from Maharashtra's Thane district were stranded in Dubai amid the ongoing tensions. 

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah also spoke to Kannadigas stranded in Dubai through a video call on Sunday. The state has also fully activated its Emergency Operation Centres across the districts to assist stranded passengers. 

As per the latest advisory from the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the airspace over Iran, Israel, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, the UAE and Qatar remains closed up to March 2.
