SpiceJet to Leh with 150 on board returns mid-flight after technical snag

A SpiceJet Boeing 737 carrying 150 passengers returned to Delhi's airport following an engine failure shortly after takeoff

A SpiceJet flight with 150 passengers returned to Delhi airport shortly after taking off due to an engine failure on Tuesday, sources said.

The Boeing 737 aircraft operating flight SG121 had departed from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport when the crew detected a technical problem at around 6:30 am.

An emergency was declared at the airport to ensure priority landing for the aircraft.

A SpiceJet spokesperson said, “The aircraft landed safely in Delhi, and all passengers were disembarked normally. There was no fire warning in the cockpit,” the spokesperson said.

Sources said that the aircraft suffered an engine issue, and preliminary findings suggest that the snag might have been with the second engine.

Sparks and flames were reportedly seen mid-air. However, officials have yet to confirm the exact nature of the technical issue.
