Commuters can now travel from Sarai Kale Khan to Meerut in just 55 minutes with the full launch of the Delhi–Ghaziabad–Meerut Namo Bharat Corridor, which will be inaugurated on February 22.
The highly anticipated Delhi Meerut Namam Bharat corridor is already operational at a 55-kilometre stretch from New Ashok Nagar, Meerut South, serving about 11 stations.
The full 82.15-kilometre-long Delhi to Meerut corridor will be operational after “The 5-km stretch between new Ashok Nagar and Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat Station and the 21-kilometre Meerut South, and Modipuram is expected to be inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi on February 22, 2026”, the NCRTC announced in a statement.
The railway line has about 16 major stations including the Sarai Kale Khan, Anand Vihar, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Muradnagar, Modinagar south, Modinagar north and Meerut south.
The inauguration of the stations is expected to benefit travellers from Delhi, Ghaziabad, Meerut and Faridabad, along with Gurugram and Noida.
The railway station was built by the National Capital Region Corporation (NCRTC). The stations are also a multi-modal transport hub. Passengers will be able to access railway buses, metro and other modes of transport from the station.
The train service is set to change modes of travel in the Delhi NCR.
The design speed of the Namo Bharat train, 180 km/h, is expected to greatly reduce travel time between Delhi and Meerut. The train’s maximum operating speed, however, will be 160 km/h.
The foundation tone for the corridor was laid on March 8, 2019 and has been under construction for about four years. The first operational stretch of the corridor was inaugurated on October 20, 2023.
