The final version of Tamil Nadu's electoral rolls—with January 1, 2026, as the qualifying date—will be published on February 23, following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process across the poll-bound state, Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik announced on Sunday.
This comes after earlier reports claimed that the final electoral rolls would be published on February 17 (Tuesday) after more than 22 lakh people submitted applications to be included.
These applications follow an Election Commission of India (ECI) instruction dated January 30—based on a Supreme Court directive—that the list of the names of people coming under the 'logical discrepancies' category will be displayed at gram panchayat bhawans, public places, and Talukas/Sub-Divisional offices, including the ward offices in urban areas.
The EC had also advised that those affected by the SIR discrepancies would be allowed to submit their documents/rebuttals with due explanation either in person, or via authorised representatives (which includes polling agents) within 10 days from the date of publication of the list of 'logical discrepancies'.
"Accordingly, the lists were put up and objections were invited for the next 10 days as mandated by the Supreme Court of India and the concerned persons were permitted to submit their documents/objections," the EC had said in a statement.
Over 15 per cent, or more than 97.3 lakh electors, were removed from voter lists, as per the integrated draft electoral roll published by the EC on December 19, 2025—after the enumeration form period of the SIR exercise in the state.
Of the electors removed from the draft roll, 26.9 lakh were deceased, 66.4 lakh had shifted or were absent, and 3.98 lakh were duplicate entries.
The period for filing objections and/or applications to be included began on December 19 continued till January 18, 2026, Patnaik had said at the time.
