A motorcyclist was found dead inside a pit dug by the Delhi Jal Board after he was returning home from his job in Rohini. The man was identified as Kamal, a 25-year-old assistant manager working at HDFC Bank.
Initial reports say that Kamal was returning home from the office on his Apache RTR 200 bike. He had contacted his family as he was returning and told his twin brother Kiran that he would be home in 10 minutes.
When he didn't reach home, his family went out to look for him. Kamal had informed the family that he was at the Janakapuri district centre at around 11:30 pm. Despite long searches, they could not find him and found that his phone was switched off. Police said that the family approached the Vikaspuri police station for assistance at around 12:30 am on Friday.
The family also claimed that they visited dozens of nearby police stations asking for help.
The police had reportedly shared what the last known details were of the victim with the family as they were searching.
Hours later, the family was informed that his body had been found inside a deep pit along with his motorcycle.
Reports say that the construction work and the pit in the road were dug by the Delhi Jal Board.
The Delhi Police have registered an FIR and are investigating all those involved in the DJB work at the site. The body and motorcycle have been recovered, and further details are being gathered.
A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Joint commissioner of police (western range) Jatin Narwal side that the police control room received a call regaring thre man and a motorcycle found in a pit dug on the Jogndar Singh Marg in Janakpuri at around 8:30 am.
“The Janakpuri police obtained Dhyani’s mobile phone location, and it was showing near the Janakpuri district centre. Head constable Ramkesh searched for Dhayani along with his brother till early morning. However, he could not be found. Dhayani’s body was found in the pit later in the morning,” added Narwal.
By 8:30, the body and the bike were taken out of the pit.
He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead.
“I am deeply hurt by the tragic death of a young man who fell into a pit during the ongoing work of the Jal Board on Joginder Singh Marg. I was at the scene and have met with the family members of the deceased. Chief Minister @rekhagupta ji and the entire government stand with this family in this hour of grief. Instructions for investigation of the incident have been issued, and the guilty will be given strict punishment”, Delhi’s home, education, power and urban development minister Ashish Sood posted on X.
The case has come just weeks after the death of 27-year-old Yuvraj Mehta who died after his car fell into a waterlogged pit in a construction site in Noida’s Sector 150.
