Namma Metro fares rise: What commuters need to know about new prices

In a major move, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has approved a 5 per cent increase in ticket prices

A statement by the BMRCL stated: “An Annual Automatic Fare Revision will be implemented with effect from 9 February 2026, on expiry of 1 year from the date of implementation of the FFC’s recommended fares by BMRCL (9th February 2025). The marginal increase ranges from Rs. 1 to Rs. 5 across 10 fare zones on its entire network of 96.10 Kms.”

According to BMRCL officials, the new fare structure will be rounded to the nearest rupee whenever the increase exceeds 50 paise. This means the fare from Majestic to Bommasandra will rise from Rs 80 to Rs 84 while the fare from Majestic to Challaghata may increase from Rs 60 to Rs 63.

The fare hike was made following recommendations from the Fare Fixation Committee and doesn’t require approval from the Union or state governments. The FFC has the authority to suggest increased fares after considering inflation and rising operational costs. The fare revision was discussed in the high-level BMRCL meeting. The FFC sighted rising electricity cost, maintenence cost and increase staff salaries as a reason for seeking a price hike.

Last year, the Metro fares rose by 101.5 per cent, but following a public backlash, it was reduced to 71 per cent.
