In a shocking case, a Karnataka man murdered his parents and sister and buried their bodies inside their rented house in Vijayanagar on Tuesday, Police said.
The murders were carried out at the family's rented home in L B Colony on Harapanahalli Road in Kottur. Akshay Kumar, from Doddakittadahalli village in Hosadurga taluk, Chitradurga district, was arrested after he tried to file a missing person case at the Tilak Nagar police station in Bengaluru.
Police became suspicious when the man gave vague statements about where he thought his parents and sister had gone. After police sustained the questioning, he admitted to committing the crime.
He said that he killed his father Bhimraj, mother Jayalakshmi and sister Amrutha on January 27 and buried their bodies inside the house before fleeing to Bengaluru.
Police sources said that the man was triggered by a family dispute over his sister’s romantic relationship with a young man. Akshay reportedly opposed the relationship. When his parents reportedly supported his sister and tried to reason with him, he murdered them in a rage. However, the exact motive for the murder is still under investigation.
Sources also hint at a property dispute being a possible motive behind the act. The family, who are originally from Chitradurga district, had moved multiple times for work, including to Ballari district and Davangere. There, they had built a house worth Rs 1.5 crore. About two years ago, they moved to Kotturu and began living in a rented house.
Vijayanagar District SP Jahnvi and Kudligi DSP Mallesh Doddmani arrived at the scene of the crime to oversee the inquiry with a dog squad and fingerprint experts. The accused is being taken to the scene so that he can pinpoint the exact place he buried the victims' bodies. Authorities are gathering forensic evidence and trying to confirm the sequence of events.
