A five-year-old boy, identified as Nishkarsh Ashwat Swami, was recently killed after a speeding car crushed him inside the premises of the Joy Nest housing society in Pune's Loni Kalbhor area.
According to surveillance footage of the incident from a nearby CCTV camera, which is going viral, the boy had been riding a scooter by himself, well inside the premises of the housing society, near the parking lot.
The incident had taken place at about 3:21 PM on Monday, according to the timestamp seen in the CCTV footage.
However, a speeding car suddenly catches him by surprise, as he is crushed under both of the left-side wheels. The car is seen going forward for a few more seconds before the driver stopped it and rushed out to get the boy some help.
The CCTV footage also showed other residents rushing to the scene, after which Nishkarsh was taken to a private hospital in the very same car that had trampled him.
However, he reportedly died before receiving treatment.
His father, Ashwat Narayan Swami—a resident of the housing society—filed a police complaint against the driver of the car, identified as Atharva Ramesh Kawade.
Kawade is a 26-year-old student at the MIT College in Pune, who had entered the society premises to drop off a friend.
The police are further examining all CCTV footage of the tragedy as a part of the case against him.
Residents of the Joy Nest housing society have also expressed shock and outrage over the incident, demanding strict action against Kawade and questioning how reckless driving was allowed within residential premises.
