The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is to have a woman mayor, as per the draw of lots. Across the 29 municipal corporations of Maharashtra that recently went to the polls, one will get a Scheduled Tribes mayor. Three have been allotted to the Scheduled Castes (SC), eight for the Other Backward Classes (OBC), and the remaining seventeen fall under the General Category. Here are five things that the people of Maharashtra need to know about the drawing of lots.

  • 1. In the recently inducted municipal corporation of Jalna, a woman from SC category will become the mayor. Ichalkaranji and Panvel, the other two young corporations of the state, are set to get OBC mayors.
  • 2. The Kalyan–Dombivli municipal corporation has been reserved for a ST Mayor

  • Mumbai (BMC)
  • Pune 
  • Ahilyanagar (OBC)
  • Dhule
  • Jalgaon (OBC)
  • Latur (SC)
  • Jalna (SC)
  • Akola (OBC)
