A Delhi woman was killed in almost the same way her husband was killed three years ago in Shalimar Bagh, north-west Delhi, on Saturday.

Police suspect that the one of the two assailants who arrived on a bike was also a suspect in the husband's murder.

Vijendra Yadav, a history-sheeter, was murdered three years ago. His wife, Rachna, 52, was one of the witnesses in the crime.

The couple's daughter, Kanika, said that her mother was threatened and followed on her way to court.

“About one-and-a-half years ago, she was followed and threatened on the way to court, after which she began attending hearings on video,” she said

Kanika said that some of the accused in her father's murder were lodged in Tihar jail.

“Despite that, such crimes are happening. This is shocking.” Kanika said.

Investigators suspect the her murder is linked to he husband's murder case, which is still currently under trial.

"In the 2023 case, Vijendra Yadav was allegedly murdered due to previous enmity. Bharat Yadav and five others were named as accused. While five of the accused were arrested and are facing trial, the main accused, Bharat Yadav, is still absconding and has been declared a proclaimed offender," a senior police officer said.

Police say that Rachna’s murder may have been aimed at weakening the case she was the main witness in her husband's murder case, and her testimony was considered vital for the prosecution.

Rachna was returning after meeting a neighbour and had stopped at a shack near her home to wash her hands and feet when she was attacked, according to family members. The shooters were lying in wait and approached her and asked her name. After she said who she was, the assailant shot her at point-blank range which killing her on the spot.

CCTV footage showed the accused who shot her. Police said the bike-borne assailants were warning nearby. The sports bike has a Delhi registration number.

The PCR call was made at around 10:59 am, and local police teams rushed to the spot and found Rachna lying in a pool of blood.

Additional Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh said, "We are re-examining all aspects of the 2023 case and the role of the proclaimed offender (Bharat),"

Rashna is survived by two daughters. One of them is married, and the younger daughter lived with her.
