Around 37 minors from various states are under the scrutiny of security agencies after being allegedly recruited by Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), reports said on Wednesday.
Officials have discovered that the Pakistan spy agency was attempting to brainwash these children, aged between 14 and 17, to work for them, posing a fresh challenge for Indian security forces, according to NDTV.
Among the 37 minors under investigation, 12 are from Punjab and Haryana, while 25 are from Jammu and Kashmir, the report added.
The agencies became aware of the spy network after the detention of a 15-year-old boy in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district, who was found to be in contact with Pakistan-based handlers.
"He was trapped by Pakistan-based agencies. Following their instructions, he filmed sensitive locations of Indian forces," a senior police officer told NDTV.
Officials also discovered that the Pakistani handlers had cloned the boy’s phone after making him click on a malicious link, allowing them to monitor his activities in real-time.
The investigation revealed a broader spy network involving teenagers, who are allegedly coerced by Pakistan-based handlers to photograph Indian security installations, monitor the movement of security convoys, and assist with logistical tasks for terror groups, the officer added.
