The situation in Jagjeevan Ram Nagar, Bengaluru, has remained tense since last night, following a stone-pelting incident during a religious procession near the Panchamukhi Nagadevata temple.
Two women were reportedly injured in the incident, which has sparked protests from residents demanding action against the culprits.
Police have filed an FIR based on a complaint alleging that three to four individuals threw stones at a chariot during the procession.
The complainant, Shashikumar N., a resident of VS Garden, stated that the incident reportedly occurred on Sunday night between 8:15 pm and 9 pm, when a large number of devotees were proceeding towards the temple.
The complainant alleged that a girl sustained a head injury in the attack and was immediately admitted to the hospital.
According to reports, an additional police force has been deployed in JJ Nagar, fearing potential retaliatory action by the aggrieved residents on Monday. Senior police officers have set up camp in the area and initiated an investigation to track down the culprits involved in the incident.
He further claimed that similar incidents had occurred in the past during religious ceremonies in the locality. The complainant also highlighted the instances of atrocities against the Dalits in the area.
Meanwhile, in a separate statement, Om Shakti devotees and Ayyappa Swamy devotees have jointly sought strict legal action against those responsible.
