India has firmly rejected China's claim that it played a role in mediating the conflict between India and Pakistan earlier this year.

New Delhi asserted that no third party was involved in the cessation of hostilities and that a ceasefire was agreed upon following a request from the Pakistani side.

"India's position on mediation has always been clear. There was no mediation after Operation Sindoor. India has always maintained that there can be no third-party intervention. Pakistan requested India's DGMO (Director General of Military Operations) for a ceasefire," a government source was quoted as saying by NDTV.

On Tuesday, while delivering a keynote speech on the international situation and Beijing's foreign policy, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that China had played a role in mediating various global conflicts, including the India-Pakistan standoff.

"Following this Chinese approach to resolving conflicts, we have mediated in northern Myanmar, the Iranian nuclear issue, the tensions between Pakistan and India, the Palestine-Israel situation, and the recent Cambodia-Thailand conflict," he said.

China's assertion came amid US President Donald Trump's repeated claims of mediating the military confrontation between the two Asian neighbors.

Also, China's role in the Operation Sindoor conflict had come under serious scrutiny and criticism, particularly regarding the military assistance provided by Beijing to Islamabad.

India has also consistently maintained that there is no place for any third-party intervention in matters relating to India and Pakistan.

The standoff took place in May when India launched airstrikes on terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as part of Operation Sindoor, in retaliation for the Pahalgam massacre, in which 25 people—mostly tourists—were killed by Pakistan-based militants. Pakistan responded by targeting Indian military installations, leading to a large-scale aerial conflict. The Indian Air Force inflicted significant damage on Pakistan's air bases in retaliation.
