In a major joint operation, Assam and Tripura police arrested 11 individuals linked to the banned JMB terror group

Assam and Tripura police have arrested 11 individuals who had links to the banned Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) in a coordinated cooperation on Tuesday.

The group had allegedly planned to destabilise the Northeast and establish a ‘Muslim Supremacy based on intelligence from central agencies.

Guwahati Police commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta said thta the Special task Froce made the arrested on the basis of the intelligence inputs.

“An operation was carried out last night in Barpeta, Chirang and Darrang districts of Assam, along with Tripura. We have arrested a total of 11 jihadi elements, who were working under direct orders from Bangladesh-based groups,” he said.

The arrested group were members of the newly-formed Indian Mujahideen-K he said.

Ten of the arrested were from Assam and one from Tripura.

The arrested individual from Tripura was identified as Jagir Miah, 33 a resident of Jaipur village. He was suspected to be associated with Imam Mahamude Kafila, (IMK) an organisation belived to be ideologically alinged with the JMB. Security agncies have been closley monitoring the oiutfit for alleged involvement in alleged radicalisation activitiesa and dissemination of extremist ideology.

Nasim Uddin alias Tamim who was in charge of the IMK in Assam was also under custody, Mahanta said. “A large number of incriminating documents have been seized during the operation,” he added.

The group have been active for a considerable period and was allegedly operating uner direction from bangladesh handlers. The arrested members are being interograted.

The others arrested include: Junab Ali (Chirang), Afrahim Hussain (Darrang), Mizanur Rahman (Barpeta), Sultan Mehmud (Barpeta), Md Siddique Ali (Barpeta), Rasidul Alam (Baksa), Mahibul Khan (Baksa), Shahruk Hussain (Barpeta), and Md Dilbar Razak (Barpeta).
