‘Weapon in Raj Bhavan’ remark: Bengal Governor orders FIR against Trinamool's Kalyan Banerjee

The Trinamool Congress MP had alleged that the Raj Bhavan was distributing weapons to “BJP criminals”

West Bengal Governor C.V. Ananda Bose has directed Kolkata Police to register an FIR and start an investigation into the allegation made by Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee that the Raj Bhavan was distributing weapons to “BJP criminals”.

The Raj Bhavan has also reportedly cautioned the city police authorities that non-compliance with the order would invite action under the Governor’s power.

Quoting an insider, IANS reported that the Governor’s office was also mulling all possible legal actions, including approaching the Lok Sabha Secretariat for action against Banerjee.

The Trinamool MP’s broadside against the Governor came on Saturday in response to the latter’s remark on the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Interacting with the media persons, Banerjee alleged that the Raj Bhavan was giving shelter to “criminals” of the BJP.

"He (Bose) is keeping criminals there, giving them guns and bombs, and telling them to attack Trinamool workers. Let him stop this first," he said.

On Sunday, Bose hit back at the MP, terming his remarks as “inflammatory, explosive and irresponsible”.

“He (Banerjee) has to make amends; he has the option to apologise to the people of Bengal, or there are legal options that can be taken against him," the Governor said.

Emphasising the serious implications of such allegations, Bose further stated that Banerjee’s remarks undermine the credibility of the Kolkata Police, which is responsible for guarding the Raj Bhavan premises.
