In a move that could affect hundreds of passengers, the Tamil Nadu All Omni Bus Owners Association has decided to suspend daily services to Kerala.

The decision followed the Kerala government’s decision to impose “hefty” fines on buses over alleged permit violations.

The Kerala Transport Department imposed fines totalling Rs 70 lakh for alleged permit violations and had detained over 30 buses, the association claimed.

Buses from Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai and other places were imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh to Rs 2.5 lakh per bus, it said.

The decision to halt operations from November 7 night has left hundreds of passengers, including Ayyappa devotees, in the lurch.

The association claimed that bookings of at least 150 buses have been cancelled.

It also demanded Tamil Nadu government's immediate intervention to resolve the issue amicably.
