17 slaps, tight scruffing, and a kick to the spine. When a robbery attempt at a jeweller's in Ahmedabad went wrong, this was how the shopkeeper dealt with the perpetrator. The fact that the accused was a woman did not stop the jeweller from unleashing a flurry of slaps at her before literally kicking her out of the shop. The visuals of the incident had gone viral on the internet after it was caught by the shop's CCTV.

The incident reportedly took place on November 3, Monday, at around 12:30 p.m. in the Ranip area of Ahmedabad. The viral video showed the woman in a sari, who has her face covered, attacking the unsuspecting jeweller at the cash counter with a handful of chilli powder. While it did land on his face, he was not blinded as she expected. The man did not take much time to reclaim focus and counter the attacker, the viral video showed.

Only self-defence; no formal complaint

However, to the surprise of many, including law enforcement, it was later revealed that the man did not take the woman to the police after forcing her out of the shop. She was let go following the assault, and the shopkeeper was unwilling to file a formal complaint against her despite being asked by some acquaintances. The Ahmedabad Police later told the media that he turned down their demand for an official complaint as well, and they are in the process of trying to identify and track her down on their own since her face was captured by the CCTV.

The Ahmedabad Police, in a statement on X on Thursday, said, "In this case, the complainant was personally met twice to obtain a statement in this regard and was asked to file the complaint, but the complainant businessman is not inclined to lodge any complaint in this matter. Nevertheless, an investigation has been initiated to search for the accused based on the CCTV footage."
