Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is healthier than Rashtriya Janata Dal supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, mentally alert, said Janata Dal (United) leader K.C. Tyagi. Dismissing speculations, the former Rajya Sabha MP asserted Kumar is the chief minister face of the National Democratic Alliance.
In an interview with The Indian Express, Tyagi dismissed rumours about Kumar's health and said the latter is still "mentally alert". Dismissing Tejashwi's charges, Tyagi said, "He did not say anything about Nitish Kumar’s health when he had been the deputy CM under Nitish from August 2022 to January 2024. In fact, Nitish Kumar is in much better health than Lalu Prasad."
"What I have gathered through my personal interactions and conversations with Nitish Kumar is that he is still very mentally alert. He does not need anyone’s support to walk. He has been our star campaigner this election. Nitish is still the most politically attractive and credible politician of Bihar," Tyagi told the publication.

Tyagi also asserted that Nitish Kumar is the chief minister face of JD(U)-BJP alliance in this assembly election, dismissing Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement that the ruling alliance will decide its chief minister after polls. Saying Kumar is not Eknath Shinde (Maharashtra deputy CM), Tyagi added, "I am also not reading too much into Amit Shah’s statements because over a dozen NDA leaders, including some BJP leaders, have endorsed Nitish as CM post-polls, too. And, you do not change your captain midway through the battle."
