Cyclone Montha: Heavy rainfall alert in these regions of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh for next two days

Cyclone Montha has intensified, bringing extremely heavy rainfall to Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh

The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an extremely heavy rainfall alert due to Cyclone Montha in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh for Tuesday.

The four states will be battered by heavy rains and gusts for the next two days.

All of coastal Andhra Pradesh is on high alert as the cyclone made landfall around the Kakinada region. The Rayalaseema region will also see extremely heavy rainfall throughout the next two days.

Odisha

Extremely heavy rainfall is to be expected in most parts of Odisha on both the 28th and 29th. On Tuesday

The state will also continue to have a red alert on Wednesday. The region can also expect gusty winds reaching speeds of 30-40 kmph for the next four days.

The coastal Ganjam city witnessed rough seas, strong winds, and heavy rainfall due to the impact of the cyclonic storm.

Chhattisgarh

The IMD also predicted very heavy rains in the southern districts of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday and heavy rains in most parts of the state on Wednesday. Districts like Raipur, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Dhamtari, Gariaband, and Balod are likely to be the most affected.  A red alert has been issued in all the districts of the Bastar division. Raipur-based weather expert Chindhalore stated that the effects of Cyclone Montha will be felt in Chhattisgarh for the next three days.

Wind speeds in Chattisgarh, meanwhile, could reach up to 60-70 kmph on Tuesday and 50-60 kmph on Wednesday. The meteorological department also predicted a temperature drop after the rains, bringing in a cold wave.

On Wednesday, rains may decrease in coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh. The region will, however, continue to have thunderstorms and lightning.

Telangana

In Telangana, the meteorological department issued warnings for very heavy downpours in the southern and central parts of the state and heavy rainfall in other regions on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, heavy to very heavy rainfall may fall in the North and Eastern districts of the state, with some places likely to receive about 100-150 mm of rain. Parts of Hyderabad are already flooded as rains have continued in the region for the past day.

Tamil Nadu

In Tamil Nadu, the Regional Meteorological Centre in Chennai issued a warning for heavy rainfall in Chengalpattu, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Ranipet, and Tiruvallur districts of Tamil Nadu, and at isolated places over Kanyakumari, Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Tiruvannamalai, Vellore, and Villupuram districts of Tamil Nadu. An orange alert has been issued for the state on Tuesday. Thiruvallur district is likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain.

Meanwhile, neighbouring states can also expect moderate to heavy rainfall as the cyclone makes landfall.

The rain caused by the storm reached as far as Kerala and several northeast states.

West Bengal, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Kerala will see heavy rains as the cyclone is now making its way on land.

The IMD predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in Jharkhand till October 31.

On Wednesday, it is likely to rain in isolated parts in Bihar, Rajasthan and Sikkim, Assam, Meghalaya and Nagaland, and Manipur in the north east.
