As heavy rains lashed parts of Delhi-NCR on Tuesday, providing respite from days of hot, dry weather, travel operations are likely to be disrupted.
While Noida and Ghaziabad are receiving heavy rain, and the Master Plan Road near Shastri Nagar has become completely waterlogged, eastern parts of Delhi, such as Jafrabad are only seeing light showers, as per a Jagran report. Several areas of Delhi also saw minor traffic jams during the morning rush hour.
The Delhi Traffic Police also warned commuters on X that the Zakhira Railway Underpass (Road No. 40) was waterlogged, due to which traffic would be affected in the surrounding areas.
"Use Chaudhary Nahar Singh Marg and KD Chowk as alternate routes," the advisory said.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has upgraded its forecast to orange alerts for parts of Delhi till October 3, and has also retained yellow alerts for other areas.
This is due to the formation of a low-pressure area in the Arabian Sea and the withdrawal of southwest monsoon winds in the regions surrounding Delhi-NCR.
"Persistent rainfall and thunderstorms are currently affecting #Delhi, leading to possible delays in flight operations," an IndiGo advisory said.
"Due to bad weather in Delhi (DEL), all departures/arrivals and their consequential flights may be affected," Spicejet said.
Air India echoed this, urging travellers to account for extra journey time to the airport "due to possible slow moving traffic".
The Delhi Traffic Police had also warned commuters in advance of major traffic jams in various parts of the city due to "heavy footfall in Durga Puja Pandals in CR Park". PM Modi's possible visit to the area for Maha Ashtami festivities may also increase traffic further.
