Suspended Congress leader and Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamookootathil, who is facing multiple allegations of sexual misconduct, attended the Kerala Assembly proceedings on Monday.
Rahul has been allotted a separate seat on the back bench, away from the UDF bloc, following a request from Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan. The Congress had given a letter to the Speaker’s Office, informing it that Rahul was no longer a member of the party.
The legislator was suspended from the primary membership of the Congress on August 25 after at least three women raised complaints of sexual misconduct and inappropriate behaviour against him.
The row first erupted after actress Rini Ann George accused "a young leader of a well-known political party" of misbehaviour.
The government has formed a special team to investigate the allegations.
