Rightwing dig up Nehru-Mountbatten past to hit back at Congress's AI video with Modi, mother

The Congress video, depicting characters resembling Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother, drew strong criticism from the BJP, which called it an insult to women and demanded an apology

Netizens with a leaning towards the Bharatiya Janata Party and the rightwing are digging up and sharing images and documents related to former prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Lord Mountbatten to counter an AI-generated video released by Congress to hit at Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Rightwingers are sharing images of documents claimed to be declassified CIA files and Nehru-Mountbatten photographs to attack the Congress party. While Congress claimed the video has nothing to do with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his mother, Heeraben, the AI-generated characters in the video resembled the leader and his mother.

The BJP called it a blow below the belt, and the Congress should apologise for insulting women. Union Minister Giriraj Singh slammed the Congress and called the video was painful. "Seeing this today was really painful. The fraud Congress-RJD people disrespected PM Modi's late mother. Through AI technology, they made her say 'halki baatein' and did such a lousy thing," Singh told ANI.

"I challenge them, what would they do if I made an AI video of Nehru and Mountbatten?" asked Singh. The AI video row comes as Congress is trying to steer away from alleged abusive slogans raised against the prime minister during the Vote Adhikar Yatra in Bihar.

While Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal distanced themselves from the controversy, the BJP accused Congress of insulting women. Prime Minister Modi also reacted emotionally to the whole controversy.

However, the Bihar Congress said the video is not related to Modi or his mother. Bihar Congress president Rajesh Ram told ANI, "It has not mentioned anyone's name. It shows a mother teaching her son. Everyone's mother is a mother and is respectable. We want to come forth with the issues of the people," he said. Ram added, "The video does not relate to anyone; we wish to stay away from verbal violence. The video should be watched completely to understand it."
