What’s K Kavitha’s next move? Speculations rife about BRS chief’s daughter forming new party

K Kavitha, daughter of BRS chief KCR, has been suspended from the party, leading to strong speculation about her political future

Just after news broke that BRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao suspended his daughter and MLC K Kavitha from the party with immediate effect, speculations are rife about her next move. Her suspension came after she triggered a storm in BRS by accusing her cousins and party leaders T Harish Rao and J Santosh Kumar of tarnishing her father KCR's image over the Kaleshwaram project.

Rumours are that Kavitha is planning to resign from the primary membership of the party and her MLC post before announcing a new party. She could appear before the media on Wednesday to announce her future plans, according to local media reports. Kavitha was the MP from Nizamabad between 2014-2019. She was elected as a nominated MLC in 2020. Her current term will continue until 2026.

The chatter has gained strength after reports emerged that Kavitha has not been toeing the party line since her release from jail in the liquor scam. She has already begun ground work to launch a new party, and the suspension could expedite her decision, the reports said.

Her supporters have already marched to the Telangana Jagruthi office, chanting slogans against Harish Rao and Jagadish Reddy. There are speculations that she could continue her activities independently through Telangana Jagruthi, a social and cultural group started  during the Telangana movement. The group continues to be independent despite being part of the party.

If Kavitha ever makes a move, the question remains as to who all will accompany her and whether she has the ability to break the BRS.
