The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has sounded red alert for Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand and western Uttar Pradesh.
Delhi and the NCR regions like Gurugram, Noida and Faridabad were put under orange alert. Yellow alert was issued for Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan and eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh. Ghaziabad was also under yellow alert.
IMD predicted that Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and western Uttar Pradesh will receive heavy to very heavy at a few places with extremely heavy rain at isolated places. On the other hand, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Rajasthan and eastern Uttar Pradesh are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places.

Jammu and Kashmir is predicted to receive heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning as well as gusty winds of 30 to 40 kmph at isolated places. Delhi is expected to witness heavy rain at isolated places while Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan might receive thunderstorms and lightning.
IMD also predicted that Odisha is likely to receive heavy rain till September 5 as another low-pressure system is forming in the Bay of Bengal. It issued yellow alert as heavy rain and thunderstorms with lightning are expected in the districts of Nawarangpur, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Rayagada and Koraput till 8.30 am on Tuesday.
In Arunachal Pradesh, IMD forecast light to moderate rainfall across the state in the first half of the week, with the likelihood of heavy showers in some eastern districts by the weekend.
