New Tamil Nadu Deputy Collector Kathir Selvi

A 27-year-old daughter of a humble farmer from Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu has become a deputy collector in the southern state. Attained through sheer hardwork, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin recently handed over the appointment letter to Kathir Selvi during an event in Chennai.

Hailing from a humble family and the daughter of a micro farmer, it was a moment of pride for Kathir Selvi when she was given the letter confirming her appointment as deputy collector by Chief Minister Stalin himself. Selected through the Group-1 examinations conducted by Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission, Selvi did not merely clear the examination, she emerged state topper.

It did not come easy for Selvi; she graduated in 2019 and has been preparing for government examinations since then. It was Selvi's dream to serve the nation by joining government services. Selvi initially prepared for Union Public Service Commission examinations and later started focusing on examinations conducted by TNPSC.

Considered one of the toughest examinations conducted by TNPSC, Selvi first attempted the Group-2 examinations last year and failed to clear it. However, Selvi was undeterred by the setback. With the support of her family, Selvi continued her preparation. Selvi said when she failed to clear the Group-2 examination, she cheered herself up saying, maybe she is meant to achieve something bigger.

However, her efforts didn't go in vain; Selvi cleared the 2024 Group-1 examinations and scored top marks at the state level. On Tuesday, Chief Minister Stalin appointed her deputy collector under the state's revenue department. Selvi also met Revenue Minister K.S.S.R. Ramachandran with other appointees, and they were advised by the minister for the betterment of society.
