A 20-year-old woman from Bihar has been allegedly murdered by her in-laws after her family failed to fulfil dowry demands. The death of a young Bihari woman comes within days of the immolation of Nikki Bhati in Noida, allegedly for dowry.
The deceased woman was identified as DC Kumari, hailing from Munger, Bihar. Kumari got married to Vibhishan Yadav from Barkhandi Tola village in Khagaria district about a year ago. Ever since their marriage, Yadav and his parents have been allegedly torturing Kumari for dowry.
Apparently, Yadav's family had demanded a gold chain as dowry from Kumari's family, and the latter sought two months' time to fulfil the demand. Yadav and his parents allegedly brutally assaulted Kumari, and the assault aggravated during the past two months, after her brother Sandeep Kumar's marriage.
Kumari's father, Jago Yadav, said that though he informed Vibhishan's family that their demands would be fulfilled, they continued to harass Kumari. Her brother alleged, "We gave them whatever we could. But they kept demanding a gold chain and a vehicle after I got married two months ago. We said we can’t right away and asked for two months. That’s why they killed her."
Kumar charged that there were visible injury marks on Kumari's body. The victim was allegedly strangled to death, and her body was found hanging in Barkhandi Tola village.

According to reports, Vibhishan, traditionally a farmer, recently took to selling ganja and liquor in the dry state. Vibhishan and his parents are at large, and a probe is underway.
The death of young Bihari woman comes amidst nationwide protest following the death of 28-year-old Nikki Bhati in Noida. Nikki was allegedly assaulted and immolated by her in-laws and husband, Vipin Bhati, over dowry. Noida police have arrested four persons in the case, including Vipin and his parents.
