Actor turned BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty slammed the the former Pakistani foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for his war threats over India’s decision to suspend the Indus Water Treaty.
In a ridiculing, sarcastic remark, he said, “Agar aisi baatein karte rahenge aur hamari khopdi sanak gayi toh phir ek ke baad ek BrahMos chalega” ("If such statements continue and we lose our patience, then BrahMos missiles will be launched one after another.")
He also added, “We have also thought of building a dam where 140 crore people will pee. After that, we will open the dam, and a tsunami will occur. I have nothing against the people of Pakistan. I have said all of this for him (Bilawal Bhutto)”
The comments come a day after the Pakistan foreign minister warned of a war if New Delhi moves ahead to suspend the Indus Water treaty. He made the comments at an event organised by the Cultural Department of the Sindh government. He said that the diversion of the Indus river would be seen as an attack on Pakistan's “ History, culture, and civilisation.
He also alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s water project amounted to a direct threat to Pakistan’s water security and linked it to India’s “defeat” in a May military clash.
"Pakistan did not start this war; we have always spoken of peace. Pakistan's representatives have gone all over the world. We spoke of peace, but India spoke of war. But now that the war has started. We would like to tell the Modi government from this land that we do not back down, we do not bow. And, if you think of carrying out such an attack towards the Indus, then the people of every province of Pakistan are ready to confront you, and this is a war you will surely lose," he said.
It is not the first time Bhutto has issued such warnings. Earlier at Pakistan’s Parliament, he said that the Country would go to war if it was denied its share of the Indus waters.
Pakistan Army chief General Asim Munir also issued similar threats earlier during his visit to the United States. He said that Pakistan would launch missile strikes on Indian dams if the treaty is suspended.
