An Indian Army soldier was killed in a landmine blast on Friday, along the Line of Control (LoC) at Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch district.
Two others were also injured in the blast, which took place during area domination patrolling in the Krishna Ghati area of Poonch, officials said, as per a PTI report.
The report added that the injured—one of whom is a JCO—have been shifted to a military hospital and are in a stable condition.
The deceased soldier has been identified as Agniveer Lalit Kumar of the 7 JAT Regiment, according to an official X post from the Indian Army's White Knight Corps.
"We stand with the bereaved family in this hour of grief," the post added.
The Line of Control witnessed serious cross-border shelling between India and Pakistan, in an 88-hour period following Operation Sindoor, which New Delhi claimed was a response to the devastating Pahalgam attack of April 22, for which Islamabad was blamed.
Earlier this year, Army troops fired over two dozen rounds after noticing 3-4 suspicious people moving under cover of thick foliage in a forward area near the Line of Control (LoC) at Rajouri.
Security forces also promptly conducted searches at more than a dozen places in the Poonch, Samba, and Kathua districts of Jammu and Kashmir following the sighting, officials had said.
The landmine blast at Poonch comes amid Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan's statement that Operation Sindoor was still ongoing and that India's defence preparedness should remain at a "very high" level, round-the-clock, and throughout the year. Indeed, following the ceasefire after the 88-hour hostilities, New Delhi continued to maintain that Operation Sindoor was only paused, following a ceasefire request from Pakistan.
Earlier this week, Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat chaired a high-level joint meeting to review security arrangements for the upcoming 13-day Budha Amarnath Yatra from July 28 to August 9, for which the procession would pass through Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch.
