The Meghalaya police have made fresh arrests in the Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, nabbing a property dealer from Indore in connection with allegedly concealing key evidence in the case.

According to police, the property dealer from Indore, Shilom James, allegedly concealed a bag belonging to Sonam Raghuvanshi. James allegedly hid Sonam's bag in a flat after the murder, police said.

Indore-based transport businessman Raghuvanshi married Sonam on May 11 here and the couple left for their honeymoon in Meghalaya on May 20. A few days later, the couple was reported missing, prompting a multi-state search. Raja's mutilated body was recovered from a gorge in Meghalaya in the Sohra area of East Khasi Hills district on June 2. On June 8, Sonam surrendered to Uttar Pradesh police in Ghazipur. While she initially claimed she was drugged and kidnapped, police later said she was bluffing.

"The Meghalaya police have arrested Shilom James, a property businessman from Indore, for allegedly hiding evidence related to Raja Raghuvanshi murder case," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police Rajesh Dandotiya told PTI.

According to police, James arranged a flat for Sonam in Indore's Dewas Naka locality. The flat was reportedly rented to murder co-accused Vishal Chauhan. Sonam is believed to have stayed in the flat for several days on return from Meghalaya, before eventually surrendering to police in Uttar Pradesh on June 8, the sources told PTI.

Allegedly, the bag Sonam left in the flat contained key evidence in the case. However, when the Meghalaya police later searched the flat, it was found vacant, as per the sources.

Sonam is accused of conspiring with her alleged lover to kill her husband. The Meghalaya police had earlier arrested five persons in connection with the murder - Sonam, her alleged lover Raj Kushwaha and the latter's three friends Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi. All accused have been remanded to judicial custody.
