Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, charged the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party "rigged" the recently held Maharashtra Assembly polls and the party is planning to use the same modus operandi to win the Bihar elections. Gandhi's charge comes following his visit to poll-bound Bihar on Friday.
Sharing an article he wrote for Indian Express, the Congress leader charged the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly polls were a blueprint for "rigging democracy". "How to steal an election? Maharashtra assembly elections in 2024 were a blueprint for rigging democracy," the Congress leader charged.
Highlighting how polls are rigged, Gandhi alleged, "Step 1: Rig the panel for appointing the Election Commission; Step 2: Add fake voters to the roll Step 3: Inflate voter turnout; Step 4: Target the bogus voting exactly where BJP needs to win; Step 5: Hide the evidence."
Charging the BJP was desperate to win in Maharashtra, Gandhi charged poll rigging would affect the public's faith in election results. "It’s not hard to see why the BJP was so desperate in Maharashtra. But rigging is like match-fixing - the side that cheats might win the game, but damages institutions and destroy public faith in the result. All concerned Indians must see the evidence. Judge for themselves. Demand answers," Gandhi said in a post on X.

Calling poll rigging a poison, "...the match-fixing of Maharashtra will come to Bihar next, and then anywhere the BJP is losing. Match-fixed elections are a poison for any democracy."
Gandhi, soon after the 2024 Maharashtra Assembly poll results, charged the electoral roll was manipulated in favour of the ruling BJP. Gandhi charged bogus voters were added to the list in favour of the BJP. However, the Election Commission denied the charges.
