UP crime news: Man accused of raping child opens fire at police, gets shot

Accused of raping a three-year-old, the man tried to flee the cops after firing at them but was shot in his legs

The Uttar Pradesh Police arrested a 24-year-old youth accused of allegedly raping a three-year-old girl after an encounter in 's Banda district on Wednesday. The youth opened fire at the cops and sustained a bullet injury when the officers retaliated.

According to Banda SP Palash Bansal, a missing complaint was lodged at the Chilla police station after the child went missing on Tuesday afternoon. During the search, police rescued the girl with injuries from a nearby forest and admitted her to a government hospital.

When some men taking into custody on suspicion was interrogated, it was learnt that a youth living in the neighbourhood had taken the girl into the forest where he allegedly raped her.

During a search of the forest area, police arrested the accused around 2 am on Wednesday after a brief exchange of fire in which the latter sustained a gunshot wound on his leg, the officer said.

The accused has been admitted to a local hospital and further legal proceedings are underway, he added. 

Meanwhile, in another incident, a madrassa operator was arrested in Bareilly on charges of raping a woman teaching in the institution here.

The police arrested the accused Zuber on Tuesday and sent him to jail. According to the report filed in this case, Zuber had called the teacher to the madrassa on a holiday last Friday on the pretext of work and allegedly raped her.

When she did not reach home for a long time, the family reached the madrassa and found her in an unconscious state.

The teacher's family subsequently lodged a complaint.
