The Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha administration in Jammu and Kashmir has sacked three government employees allegedly for helping terrorist groups covertly.

All three men are currently in jail. They were allegedly working for two banned groups — Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen (HM) — while holding government posts.

The sacked employees are Malik Ishfaq Naseer, a police constable; Ajaz Ahmed, a teacher in the School Education Department; and Waseem Ahmad Khan, a Junior Assistant at Government Medical College, Srinagar. Each of them was found to be involved in serious acts that supported terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to officials, Naseer joined the J&K Police in 2007. His brother was a trained terrorist from LeT who was killed by security forces in 2018. Even after that, Malik continued to support LeT. He used his position in the police to avoid suspicion. He helped Pakistani handlers by giving them GPS coordinates to drop arms, explosives, and drugs. He later collected and handed over these items to terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. His actions were a serious betrayal of his duty as a police officer.

Ahmed became a teacher in 2011 but was allegedly working for Hizb-ul-Mujahideen secretly in the Poonch region.

In 2023, he was caught during a police check while carrying arms and HM posters in his car.

Khan, a Junior Assistant at Government Medical College in Srinagar since 2007, was found to have helped in the killing of journalist Shujaat Bukhari and his two security guards in 2018. He gave support to the attackers, went with them during the attack, and helped them escape afterwards. He was later arrested for being part of the plan.

Since 2020, under Sinha’s leadership, the Jammu and Kashmir government has taken strong steps to stop terrorism.

Over 75 government workers linked to terrorist groups have been removed from service. Police verification is now required before anyone is hired in a government job. These actions aim to stop terrorists and their helpers from entering government departments and to make the region safer.

The development comes a day after Srinagar Police booked five terror associates of proscribed terror outfits involved in subversive activities under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
