Political parties in Jammu and Kashmir came together for an all-party meeting and adopted a resolution strongly condemning the Pahalgam terror attack, calling it a "barbaric" act and an attack on Kashmiriyat, the spirit of peaceful coexistence.
On April 22, militants opened fire on tourists at Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, killing 24 tourists. A local horseman, Adil Shah, and a Nepali national also lost their lives in the attack.
The meeting, called by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, was held at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) near Dal Lake. It began at 3:30 pm and lasted for two hours.
Leaders from major parties—including the National Conference, BJP, PDP, Congress, CPI(M), Apni Party, and other smaller regional parties—attended the meeting. Ghulam Nabi Azad of DPAP and Altaf Bukhari of Apni Party were also present.
All parties supported the resolution and pledged full backing for the investigation and efforts to bring the attackers to justice.
Reading out the resolution after the meeting, Omar Abdullah said, "We strongly condemn this barbaric act of terror. Such violence is a direct attack on Kashmiriyat, which stands for unity, peace, and harmony."
The resolution paid tribute to Adil, who died trying to protect tourists.“His sacrifice will be remembered as a symbol of courage and selflessness,” it said.
It also praised the support and kindness shown by locals who helped the injured and stranded tourists after the attack.
Peaceful protests were held in many towns and villages across Kashmir in solidarity with the victims.
The resolution urged all State and Union Territory governments to ensure the safety and dignity of Kashmiri students and citizens living outside J&K, amid reports of growing hostility in some areas.
