IFS officer Nidhi Tewari has been appointed private secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved Tewari's appointment as private secretary on a co-terminus basis, according to an order dated March 29.
A 2014-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, Nidhi Tewari is currently serving as deputy secretary in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO).
She hails from Mehmurganj in Uttar Pradesh's Varanasi, PM Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency. Modi has been representing the constituency since 2014.
Nidhi Tewari secured the 96th rank in the Civil Services Examination in 2013. Before clearing the UPSC (Union Public Service Commission), she used to work as an assistant commissioner (Commercial Tax) in Varanasi.
In 2022, she joined the PMO as an undersecretary. She has been working as the deputy secretary since January 6, 2023. In her role at the PMO, she focused on foreign and security matters, reporting directly to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.
Before her assignment with the PMO, she was with the external affairs ministry, working in the disarmament and international security affairs division.
