The row over remarks made by Samajwadi Party MP Ramji Lal Suman on Rana Sanga has reached the President with members of the Samajwadi Party Ambedkar Vahini workers and office bearers handing over a memorandum demanding among other things, an increase in the security provided to the parliamentarian.

Across the state, workers and leaders of the wing gave their memoranda to their respective district magistrates.

This wing of the party was formed in 2023 to initiate and continue dialogues on the attempts to amend the Constitution.

Mithai Lal Bharti, the national president of the Vahini, said on March 26 members of the Karni Sena climbed up the walls of the house of Suman in Agra and smashed window panes. He alleged that there was an attempt to vandalise vehicles and kill Suman's family members. This manner of protest was completely ‘unconstitutional’, said Bharti.

Suman’s remark that Rana Sanga, an erstwhile the ruler of Mewar, was a ‘traitor’ has put him in the eye of a storm, especially since he has refused to apologise for it.

Within the Vahini’s move to reach the President also lies its own agenda of bringing in the debate on Constitutional values.

Baba Saheb’s constitution gives every citizen of the country the right to express his views, said its national general secretary, Ram Babu Sudarshan.

In addition to increased security for the MP, the Vahini has demanded that there be strict action against atrocities on Dalits, women, backward classes and minorities in the country, especially in Uttar Pradesh. It has also asked for stringent action against those who have been protesting violently against Suman.

If the above demands are not met, Vahini's office bearers said, they will launch a nationwide campaign for the safety of Dalits, backwards, women and minorities.
