In a shocking incident, some miscreants, suspected to be involved in the Nagpur riots, allegedly tried to molest a female police officer who was on duty. The miscreant also tried to tear down her uniform and hurled obscene words at her and several other women officers, according to reports.

The incident happened on the road leading from Chitnis Park to CA Road in Nagpur on Sunday night. The accused tried to assault the officers taking advantage of the dark in the area. It is not clear whether the identity of the accused was confirmed but reports said a case has been registered against the mob that committed such a shameful act at Ganesh Peth police station in Nagpur.

This comes amid reports of rioters attacking police officers with axes and pelting stones. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has warned of strict action against anyone who assaulted the police officers.

Kashmir angle?

Speculations are rife that the way stones were pelted at police and others was similar to the strategy used by stone pelters in Kashmir. Sources quoted by News 18 Hindi said the way stones were brought to the riot-hit locations in a vehicle matched the stone pelters tactic in Kashmir.

The Anti Terrorist Squad is currently investigating the Nagpur violence case along with Maharashtra ATS.

At present, police have registered a case against some Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal officials for hurting religious sentiments during the demonstration. An FIR has been registered at Ganeshpeth police station against VHP in-charge secretary of Maharashtra and Goa Govind Shende and others.

Meanwhile, the VHP has alleged that the violence was pre-planned and that an appeal was made from a mosque located opposite Chitnis Park, due to which the crowd gathered on Monday.
