Members of students’ wing organisations of left parties and Trinamool Congress clashed in West Bengal on Monday amid protests announced by the Students’ Federation of India demanding the resignation of Education Minister Bratya Basu. The clash occurred in Siliguri when left-wing student cadres tried to stop a college bus.

The SFI has announced a strike in campuses across West Bengal on Monday, demanding action against Education Minister Bratya Basu, and his resignation after his car allegedly hit student protesters at Jadavpur University on Saturday. Major campuses across the state wore a deserted look on Monday.

In Siliguri, a clash broke out between members of Trinamool Chhatra Parishad and All India Democratic Students' Organisation (AIDSO) workers while the left wing workers allegedly tried to stop a college bus. The AIDSO protesters allegedly tried to block a bus from North Bengal University as part of the protest. However, the left workers denied the charges and said it was TMC workers who attacked the students.
The SFI has demanded the resignation of the education minister and criminal action against him after he allegedly grievously injured two students while Bratya Basu was returning from Jadavpur University after attending a meeting. SFI charged while the students only wanted to have a peaceful discussion with the minister, he reacted in high-handed manner. SFI alleged the minister’s car just accelerated through the protesting students without being concerned about the safety of students. Basu also sustained injuries as the windshield of his car was damaged by the protesters.
