With the BJP coming back to power in the national capital, the newly elected MLAs of the party wants to rename the localities in their constituency. These include Najafgarh constituency and Mohammadpur village in RK Puram.

Najafgarh to Nahargarh

Neelam Pehelwan who won from Najafgarh constituency wants the name changed to Nahargarh and submitted a proposal in the Delhi assembly regarding this. She told ANI that Najafgarh is part of the rural areas of Delhi bordering Haryana. She went on to claim that when Mughal emperor Shah Alam II assumed control of the area, it was under a lot of oppression.

Explaining why she wants the new name of the constituency as Nahargarh, she said it was a tribute to Raja Nahar Singh, who played a key role in the First War of Indian Independence in 1857 and brought the area under Delhi province.

Pehelwan said that though then MP Parvesh Verma, who recently became an MLA after defeating Arvind Kejriwal, tried to change the name of Najafgarh, they could not change the name.

Mohammadpur to Madhavpuram

RK Puram MLA Anil Sharma on Thursday said he will recommend the renaming of Mohammadpur village in his constituency. He wants the name changed to Madhavpuram, saying the corporation had passed a proposal to change the name long ago.

Pointing out that the proposal has been pending in the assembly for a long time, Sharma alleged that the AAP-led government must have kept it buried somewhere. He said he will take up the issue when he is allowed to speak in the assembly on Friday. Sharma said he will submit a proposal as soon as possible.
