Drumming sounds in the backdrop of ‘Delhi me double engine sarkar’ (double engine government in Delhi), ‘Modi hai to mumkin hai’ and ‘Jai Shree Ram’ echoed at the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) office at 14 Pant Marg. In fact, the BJP members celebrated an early Holi with colours smeared on their faces. With BJP’s saffron flag in every party worker’s hand and the bursting of firecrackers marked victory celebrations at the BJP office.

This is as colourful and loud it can get when a party scripts history. How could sweets be missing, the party workers distributed sweets along with tea and snacks to every visitor. Some party supporters were even dressed as Hanuman and Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and could be seen dancing to the beats of drums as the party ended its 27-year-long drought in Delhi to sweep the polls.

As per the latest trends, the BJP was leading in 47 out of the 70 seats—way above the 36-seat majority mark, while Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) trailed at 23 and Congress was again out of the picture. Though believed to be a closely contested election between the AAP and the BJP, the saffron party has taken a decisive lead, leading to celebrations of a ‘long-awaited’ victory.

“The biggest reason for BJP’s win is Narendra Modi and central government’s credibility among the Delhi residents,” Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva said at the party office.  The BJP’s campaign revolved around ₹2500 monthly aid to women, extending the Centre’s Ayushman scheme to Delhi, and continuing all the schemes that are underway while weeding out the AAP “corruption” from Delhi’s governance.

Deepshikha Minj, state vice president, BJP ST Morcha added, “There are many more reasons than just Rs 2500 financial aid to women for BJP’s win. BJP aims to develop Delhi and has promised security and safety to women and that is why Delhi chose BJP."

AAP's credibility faced a severe downfall amid the corruption charges. The arrest of AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal, former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, and former minister Satyendar Jain over the Delhi liquor scam and the ‘Sheesh Mahal’ controversy proved fatal for the party’s image.

The BJP party did not let any day go by without reminding the Delhi voters of these scandals, further harming the party’s credibility among the middle-class section of society.

Arun Singh, BJP national general secretary added, “People lost trust in the AAP government and saw through their fake promises.  Despite being in power for 10 years, they failed to solve pollution and the Yamuna river issue”.

The saffron party is set to form its government in Delhi after a heated battle and now the eyes are on the party's next big decision regarding the CM's face, which is yet to be revealed. After celebrations at the Delhi BJP’s office, the victory scene will shift to the national headquarters where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address party workers.
