Security has been beefed up at Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s residence in Mumbai Bandhra area following an attack by an intruder who entered his home with the intent of theft in the early hours of Thursday, January 16.
More number of CCTV cameras are being installed at the 12th floor residence of the actor who suffered multiple stab injuries in a clash with the intruder.
According to reports, Saif has hired an agency, Ace Security and Protection, owned by actor Ronit Roy for the enhanced security of his family. The agency has previously gi9ven security for various high-profile actors including Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.
On Tuesday, as Saif was discharged from the Lilavati hospital, Ronit Roy was seen speaking to police personnel outside Saif’s home in Bandra. He was also present at the hospital for the last few days as Saif was undergoing treatment for the stab injuries.
The actor was discharged five days after the attack that sent shock waves across Bollywood and the state, with questions being raised from several quarters, including from the opposition, over the safety of people in Mumbai.
Saif underwent a surgery at the hospital where doctors removed a sharp object from his spine.
Mumbai Police has arrested a Bangladeshi national in the case. The accused, identified as Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakir (30) was held from neighbouring Thane district on Sunday, January 19.
According to police, Fakir illegally entered India seven months ago and used a West Bengal resident's Aadhaar card to procure a SIM before moving to Mumbai. He changed his name to Vijay Das and had been residing in Mumbai for over five months, working odd jobs and was associated with a housekeeping agency.
The investigators zeroed in on the accused after an extensive examination of CCTV footage, which showed him riding a motorcycle on January 9, a week before the violent attack.
The metropolitan magistrate's court in Bandra has remanded the accused in five-day police custody.
On Tuesday, police took Fakir to Khan’s residence and recreated the crime scene. A team of 20 officials reached the Satguru Sharan building in four police vans around 5.30 am and were on the premises for an hour.
