After the shocking incident at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, another junior doctor in Andhra Pradesh was attacked by a patient at a hospital. The incident has once again put the spotlight on the safety of the doctors on duty at hospitals.
The attack on the intern doctor took place at the Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS) in Tirupati on Saturday.
The CCTV footage at the hospital showed a patient grabbing the doctor’s hair and banging her head on the steel frame of a hospital bed.
The other doctors in the emergency ward immediately came to the doctor's rescue and the attacker was taken away.

In a letter to the SVIMS director Dr R.V. Kumar, the victim said that she was attacked while she was on duty in the Emergency Medicine Department on Saturday.
"I was unexpectedly attacked by a patient, Bangaru Raju," she wrote. The doctor also highlighted that there were no security personnel at the site to help her.
"If the patient had been armed with a sharp weapon, the situation could have escalated with severe consequences," the doctor wrote.
The doctors of the hospital staged a protest and demanded safety at the workplace.
The Supreme Court had now set up a 10-member National Task Force to recommend steps to prevent violence against and ensure working conditions for healthcare workers.
The rape and murder of a 31-year-old junior doctor in Kolkata has shocked the whole medical sector. The incident has sparked massive protests across India demanding action against the culprits and framing laws to ensure the protection of the doctors on duty.
