Champai Soren on Wednesday tendered his resignation as Jharkhand chief minister to Governor C.P. Radhakrishnan. Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) executive president Hemant Soren staked a claim to form the government.

While speaking to the reporters, Champai Soren said, "I have resigned as per the decision of the JMM-led alliance. Our alliance is strong."

"A few days ago, I was made the chief minister and I got the responsibility of the state, After Hemant Soren was back, our alliance took this decision and we chose him as our leader," he added.

The decision to change in leadership was taken at the key alliance meeting held at Champai Soren's residence in Ranchi.

According to sources, the decision was unanimously taken to elect Hemant Sorenn as JMM legislature party leader.

Soren's wife Kalpana, brother and minister Basant, Congress's Jharkhand in-charge Ghulam Ahmad Mir and state president Rajesh Thakur attended the meeting.

Soren was released from jail on June 28 as the high court granted him bail in a money laundering case linked to an alleged land scam.

He had resigned as the CM before his arrest on January 31.

Champai Soren had taken oath as 12th Jharkhand CM on February 2 after Hemant Soren's arrest.
