Lok Sabha Polls 2024 Results Live: Kerala witnessed a triangular contest as the Left Democratic Front (LDF) and Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), both members of the I.N.D.I.A bloc, decided to contest all seats sans any alliance deals. The CPI(M) and Congress, both sworn rivals of the BJP-led NDA, look to win as many seats as possible from Kerala, a state where BJP failed to win any seats in 2019.
In the last general elections, the ruling LDF was reduced to just a seat while the Congress and its allies bagged the remaining 19. AM Ariff, the sole Left MP from Kerala, is facing a tough test this time as the Congress fielded AICC General Secretary in charge of organisation KC Venugopal to vest Alappuzha from him.
The CPM and allies were trounced in their southern bastion due to a string of reasons including the arrival of Rahul Gandhi and controversies around women's entry at the Sabarimala shrine. However, they are hellbent on increasing their representation in the Lower House and have fielded strong candidates from every seat.
Rahul Gandhi is yet again in the fray from the Wayanad seat while the BJP fielded MoS Rajeev Chandrasekhar and popular actor Suresh Gopi from Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur seats respectively. Other high-profile candidates include former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor (Congress, Thiruvananthapuram), KPCC president K Sudhakaran (Kannur), incumbent Minister for Devaswoms and Welfare of SC, ST and Backward Classes K Radhakrishnan (CPM, Alathur) and former Health Minister KK Shailaja (CPM, Vatakara)
What did Exit Polls say about Kerala Lok Sabha results:
According to the exit polls that were revealed on Saturday, the Left was unlikely to make a strong comeback in Kerala. The lion's share of seats is likely to be won by Congress and its allies, it said. As many as 15 seats would be won by the UDF while the BJP may win 1-3 seats. The Left parties are unlikely to win more than 5 seats in Kerala, several exit poll data claimed.
