Over 200 employees of Delhi Women’s Commission lose jobs after LG Saxena’s order

The appointments were made when AAP MP Swati Maliwal was chairperson

As many as 223 contractual employees of the Delhi Commission for Women were removed from their roles on Thursday, after discrepancies were found in their appointments. Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena ordered the immediate removal of these employees who were appointed when Aam Aadmi Party MP Swati Maliwal was DCW’s chairperson.

Then Chairperson Maliwal appointed these employees without permission, going against the rules, ANI reported. As per the order issued by Delhi’s Department of Women and Child Development, according to CAG’s audit and Special audit report of the Directorate of Audit, Delhi government, and replies issued by the Women’s Commission, “it clearly emerges that large scale administrative and financial irregularities/violations have been observed in the functioning of DCW which includes irregular appointments, unauthorized engagement of manpower, irregularities in appointments of Consultant cum advisor cum member secretary, rejection of member secretary by appointed by LG and illegal appointment of member secretary by DCW.”

“Thus, the decisions and actions taken by the DCW are beyond their delegated power, without following various procedures laid down and in violation of DSW Act/rules/regulations/guidelines issued by Government of NCT of Delhi from time to time,” the order read. Saxena ordered the appointments made without following due procedures is “void- ab-initio and the same cannot be allowed to continue in DCW.”
