2024 Lok Sabha polls in numbers: 12 states, UTs have more women voters

While announcing the dates for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the Election Commission said the country has around 97 crore voters registered for the upcoming elections.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar revealed that the nationwide gender ratio among voters is currently 948 with 12 states and Union Territories having more female than male voters.

Kumar said the Commission has conducted 17 Lok Sabha elections, 16 Presidential elections and more than 400 assembly elections. To read about Lok Sabha elections dates, click HERE and for assembly election dates, click HERE.

Lok Sabha polls in numbers 

  • Number of voters: 96.8 crore
  • Male voters: 49.7 crore 
  • Female voters: 47.1 crore
  • Transgender voters: 48,000
  • First-time voters: 1.8 crore 
  • Persons with disabilities: 88.4 lakh 
  • Service electors: 19.1 lakh 
  • 85+ years old: 82 lakh voters 
  • Young voters (20-29 year olds): 19.74 crore 
  • Centenarian voters: 2.18 crore
  • Polling stations: 10.5 lakh
  • EVMs: 55 lakh
  • Polling officers and security forces : 1.5 crore

In the 2019, polling was held in seven phases and there were a total of 91.2 crore eligible voters with about 43.8 crore female voters and nearly 47.3 crore male voters.

A total of about 61.5 crore votes were cast and the voter turnout was 67.4 per cent.
