In a major push towards indigenization, the Cabinet Committee on Security has cleared a proposal to buy 34 new Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv choppers for the Indian Coast Guard and the Army.

The Coast Guard would get nine helicopters while the Army will be inducting 25 in their fleet, reported ANI. These choppers are manufactured by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

Both projects are expected to be worth over Rs 8,000 crore.

Government sources told the news agency that the choppers in the Coast Guard would replace the old light utility helicopters. The Army, meanwhile, would be using these choppers for multiple roles.
